Psalm 54:4
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
Reflection
This psalm is a psalm of praise to God by David. He had experienced lots of challenges in his life before he became a king and after he was enthroned as king. Challenges, and problems are part of life and there is no offices or situation in life that can be free from challenges and problems. In this psalm, David is praying from experience and over the years he had gained wisdom about who God is in his life. So, the message that comes out loud and clear in this verse is that we need to remember that we are not alone in this battle – in this struggle – in this life. We are not alone as we face betrayal and hate. God is with us-Emmanuel and is our helper and deliverer. God is sufficient enough to help and protect us and this is the trust David had in his God. David takes comfort in the fact that even in this world, he’s not alone. There are others who support and uphold him. As we go to weekend let us remember that we are not alone in the struggle for life God is there for us and we have friends in companions in the journey who can stand with us during trying times.
Collect
Almighty God, you have created the heavens and the earth and
made us in your own image: teach us to discern your hand in all
your works and your likeness in all your children; through Jesus
Christ your Son our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit
reigns supreme over all things, now and for ever. Amen.
