2 Chronicles 6:14
He said: Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.
Reflection
This was Solomon’s prayer of dedication of the temple after its completion and furnishing. Other nations gave generously for the building of this vast temple and people committed themselves with their labour and skills and now it was time to dedicate the work of their hands to God. Solomon is in a jovial mood because he had fulfilled the promise of his father-David. Three things are worthy noting in this prayer;1. Solomon acknowledges the superiority of God over other gods. He is a powerful king but he put himself under God’s authority. When we pray to God it is important that we acknowledge his superiority over anything on earth and this is important in keeping us away from idolatry. 2. Solomon acknowledges that God made a covenant of love with his people and He keeps it. God so loved the world that he send his one and only Son to redeem us. God’s covenant is not a legalist document to put us under chain but it is like a ring of love towards His people. We are the people of the covenant that he gave us on the last supper as we wait for his second coming. 3. The covenant redeem those who remain his way. It is important for us to remain steadfast in the way of the Lord so us to enjoy the benefits of the covenant.
Collect
We pray for the people of Central Turkey and North West Syria, whose lives have been devastated by the earthquake. Be present, O Lord, our Good Shepherd, to bring comfort, relief, shelter and human kindness. Shield the people who suffer, console those who are bereaved, prosper the provision of relief, strengthen the work of emergency teams, and shine your light and hope in the midst of despair, and, We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
