1 Samuel 2:9
He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. It is not by strength that one prevails.
We are still continuing with the prayer of Hannah. In today´s verse three things are important from Hannah´s prayer;
- He will guard the feet of his faithful servants. What is the meaning of this statement? He will order and direct their entire goings, and keep them from every evil way. Therefore God guards his people against straying and falling. How does he guide us? Through His word which is a lamp upon our feet and through His Holy Spirit.
- The wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. The wicked people walk in darkness therefore they will stumble and stray. Metaphorically, they will suffer eternal destruction and their voices will never be heard.
- It is not by strength that one prevails. This is a fundamental truth that we cannot run away from. Like sheep, we do not have the capacity to redeem ourselves. We are fragile and have our own limitations hence we need a shepherd to guide and guard us. This is the shepherd we are preparing for this Christmas festive.
Let Us Pray
Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts,
that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an angel, may, by his passion and cross, be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour, who is alive with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
