Text: Jude 1:16-18
These are grumblers and malcontents; they indulge their own lusts: they are bombastic in speech, flattering people to their own advantage. But you, beloved, must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, for they said to you, ´In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts.

Jude continues with his lambasting of these false teachers by summarizing their evil character as grumblers and murmurs. The Greek word that is literally translated ´complainers´ is ´mεμψιμοιροι´ (mempsimoiroi) meaning complainers of their fate. Some think that the two expressions, murmurers and complainers, are synonymous terms to express the same thought with more strength and emphasis. Their grumbling is likely a constant murmuring against those who proclaim the truth, and they enjoy finding fault with all who believe God´s Word. They followed their wild, disorderly, and impure passions and influence others to follow them. Jude however reminds his audience that these people have been predicted in the past and therefore there is nothing new in their actions.

People should be therefore vigilant against such false teachers. Two takeaways for today are: 1. False teachers continue to exist even today and therefore we should be alert. 2. Every evil that happens today has been predicted in the past
